Reliable Answers to Our Most Common Questions

At our core, we’re all about your satisfaction and delivering the best professional cleaning services in the Chicagoland area! If you’ve got questions, you’re in the right place – our expert team have compiled a list of the most commonly asked questions about our products and services.

How often should I have my carpets cleaned?

Regularity might depend on your own individual circumstances, but a good rule of thumb is to have your carpet professionally cleaned every six months or, in low traffic areas, every year. Think of it this way: unchecked, dirt and soil do a lot to shorten the life of your floors, carpet, and furniture. Dirt may seem harmless enough, but it’s quite harsh. Left unattended, dirt grinds its way into the deepest fibers and can result in permanent damage. The good news is, committing to a regular routine of vacuuming several times a week can reduce the need for frequent cleanings and extend the life of your floors, carpets, and furniture.

Why should I trust Master Clean?

We are a local small business that cares about our employees, our customers, and the community we work in. Our employees take pride in the work they do and care about the satisfaction of our customers. Our cleaning professionals are fully insured, are subject to a background check, and carefully trained.

What should I do before Master Clean arrives?

In order for our cleaning professionals to clean as much of your home as possible, we ask that you pick up and put away any items on the floor and move as much furniture as possible if you’d like it to be cleaned underneath. If you have pets, it’s best to put them somewhere comfortable where they won’t get in the way and will be safe during the cleaning.

What if I need to reschedule or cancel a service?

We understand how unpredictable life can be, which is why we’re happy to accommodate any changes with 48-hour notice. We are always striving to make our service convenient for you while ensuring our cleaning professionals have enough notice to provide excellent service.

How do I pay?

We accept Cash, Check and Credit Card payments. If you choose to use a credit card, there is a 3.5% additional charge. If you choose to pay with a check, please know there will be a $50 fee if the check does not clear, and another payment method will need to be used. You will be emailed an invoice once your cleaning is completed that will have your payment applied, as a confirmation receipt.

What is 3M Scotchgards Protectant, is it safe and do I really need it?

3M Scotchgard Protector is a carpet protectant applied after the cleaning process. It improves the carpet fiber’s ability to resist water and oil-based stains, dirt from shoes, and the grind of everyday use. While not a “waterproofing” treatment, it protects very well against water-based stains and makes for easy cleanup of most spills.

A spotless 20-year record of safety and performance proves this legendary protection is perfectly safe for your kids and pets.

While it is not a part of the usual carpet cleaning process, this additional step after the cleaning can be the most important step. After seeing all the work, we do to clean your carpets, unless you’re moving out of the property, why not spend a little extra to make sure it stays clean longer?

What days are you open? What are your hours?

Our hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5pm and Saturday, 9:00am to 3pm.  Outside of the following hours, we are available for emergency services.

Why do carpets need to be cleaned regularly?

It’s easy to think that the only reason you need your carpet clean is, so it looks nice, right? That is certainly one reason to schedule regular carpet cleaning; however, it’s important to remember that carpet cleaning is also an investment in your health.

Carpets, whether in your home or in your office, can quickly collect dirt and allergens. Though not always visible on the surface, these contaminants can pollute the indoor air quality that you breathe every day. Carpets that often appear clean may, in fact, be much dirtier than you think!

Think of your carpet as a type of air filter in your home. When things like dust and dirt collect on your carpet, in time you will start to breathe in that buildup. Merely using household carpet cleaners to remove dirt and spills is not enough to ensure the air you’re breathing is as clean as possible.

Why should I hire a professional carpet cleaner instead of doing it myself?

Home carpet cleaning machines available for rent or purchase to consumers do not reach temperatures nearly high enough to sanitize carpets. Heat is required to activate the cleaning agents in the detergent – that means piping hot water, and not water from a faucet. Our equipment heats water to temperatures of 212-230° (the boiling point) to properly disinfect your carpet, rugs, and upholstery.

Furthermore, the vacuums in home carpet cleaners are designed to avoid blowing a circuit. That means that they are not very powerful. These machines are not capable of removing all the dirt or bacteria embedded in carpet fibers, nor even all the soap and water that they inject. Carpets will dry slower and will end up with sticky residue on the surface when you use these rental machines. Our truck-mounted system has a much stronger vacuum, which decreases dry time and leaves your carpets residue-free.

How long does it take for the carpet to dry?

Your carpet will be only slightly damp to the touch after your cleaning. Most carpets typically need 6-10 hours to dry completely. However, it could take up to 24 hours to dry depending on the time of year your carpets are cleaned, and the air circulation, humidity, and temperature in your home.

To minimize drying time during the winter months, raise your heat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit or more. You can also turn on dehumidifiers and any fans you have such as ceiling or floor fans. Even the fans in your bathrooms and the vent above the stove will increase air circulation and help carpets dry faster.

In the warmer months, air conditioning will work better than heat as it helps to remove moisture from the air. Opening windows and doors to increase air circulation is also helpful.

How soon can I walk on my freshly cleaned carpet?

You may walk on damp carpets with bare feet or socks immediately, but we do not recommend wearing street shoes or letting pets walk on them until they are completely dry.

Please be mindful of slipping hazards when stepping from damp carpet onto slick surfaces such as hardwood, linoleum, or tile. Supervise children to make sure they do not slip and fall.

How soon can I move my furniture back onto my carpet?

Furniture can only be put back on wet carpet if it has something underneath it. Wet carpet could blemish from wood stains or rust if furniture is set directly on it. Items with legs can be put on small pieces of plastic, and the items without legs must be kept off the carpet with small wood or Styrofoam blocks. Wait for the carpet to dry completely before you take your furniture off the pads or blocks.
